Fatality Crash on I-35 E Denton & Buccees Blvd By Rocky Walton on March 09, 2022

On Saturday, March 5, 2022, tragedy swept through I-35E in Denton, Texas as Denton police and emergency personnel responded to a multitude of calls at around 4 AM, that there was a body lying in the middle of the roadway reported NBC news. Police rushed to the scene where the driver who initially hit the unidentified pedestrian was waiting having called 911 themselves in an attempt to save the man.

Police have a few theories as to what might have caused the accident to occur in the first place. It is thought through the preliminary investigation of the evidence that the unidentified man had stopped his vehicle on the side of the road. He then exited the vehicle and entered the right-hand lane where he was then struck by oncoming traffic. Investigations are still being made as to the state of the vehicle, whether it had mechanical malfunctions that would have forced the driver to seek aid, or if the driver himself had been impaired in some way, which would have caused the strange behavior of stepping out onto the still busy roadway.

Preliminary evidence shows that the body was struck by at least one other vehicle before police were able to arrive and cordon off the scene. At this time both drivers responsible for striking the unidentified man have agreed to help police how they can. It is unclear at this time whether the pedestrian was killed instantly from the first impact, or if the second car was responsible for slaying the man’s already injured body. In these types of cases, further investigation by a medical examiner will help police identify the cause of death.

Investigation into the Crash Continues

Denton Police continue to investigate this case. They will soon finalize a Texas Peace Officers crash report that will provide further information. All involved parties can purchase their crash report at this link: https://cris.dot.state.tx.us/public/Purchase/.

For now, the parties involved should contact their insurance companies and cooperate with the Denton police department. It would be best if the parties would retain their vehicles because vehicle and site inspections might be necessary.
