One Dead Two Injured After Fiery Wreck on 1-20 Fort Worth March 15 By Rocky Walton on April 04, 2022

A terrible accident occurred on March 15, 2022, that claimed the life of one and forever altered the lives of three reported Fox 4 News. On March 15, 2022, at 11 PM the driver of a white Camaro identified by Fort Worth Police as 22-year-old Bryce Abernathy was going twice the speed limit approximately 157mph on 1-20 near McCart Avenue. Abernathy reportedly smashed into the back of an SUV that then burst into flames from the high impact of the crash. One of the SUV’s passengers identified as 19-year-old Kyree Shaundi Smallwood was killed on impact; while the SUV’s other two occupants were left with injuries from both the impact and resulting flames. Fort Worth PD has arrested Abernathy and charged the driver with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of manslaughter; though police records indicate that Abernathy was bonded out. Kyree’s mother Stephanie was both heartbroken about the news regarding the death of her son and angered hearing that the man responsible was able to walk free. Mrs. Smallwood stated in an interview with FOX News that “Her son was full of life and a love for music. That everyone always remembered him smiling.” At this time, Fort Worth PD has not released the identities or medical condition of the SUV's other occupants.

Our Prayer

Dear Lord, please use your light to guide us through the darkest times. The times when our grief is overpowering and rage is all-consuming. Put your healing hands upon the spirits and bodies of those who need it, Lord, so that your servants can continue to your work Lord. We as this in your name with all the glory and honor to you Lord. Amen.

At this time, it remains unclear as to what caused Abernathy to drive at such high rates of speed. It is likely due to the time of night that alcohol or some other sort of inhibitory substance was involved, which would have slowed Abernathy’s cognitive functions enough not to notice the rise in speed. Considering Abernathy’s age and the type of car he drove, it is also likely the speed was due to just wanting to go fast. Whatever the case may be, it is obvious that Abernathy is completely at fault for causing the accident that took Kyree Smallwood’s life. As such, he should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law including both criminal and civil charges. The best way to ensure that happens is to retain the services of an attorney.
