Harris County Police Deputy Chavis Slain by Drunk Driver April 2 By Rocky Walton on April 05, 2022

On April 2, 2022, the Harris County Police Department lost a great employee. According to NBCDFW, PCT. 7 deputy, Jennifer Chavis, was killed in the line of duty after a drunk driver struck her patrol car. According to the Harris County Police Department, Chavis was struck and killed by an alleged intoxicated driver on Beltway 8. Chavis had already been responding to a call about an intoxicated driver fleeing the scene of an accident when the impact occurred. While Chavis was going to attempt a traffic stop, her vehicle was struck from behind and burst into flames from the impact. Police and emergency first responders rushed to the scene to try to save Chavis, but she died at the scene before they could save her. The driver that struck the back of Chavis's vehicle has been taken into custody and is awaiting charges at this time. The name of the driver has not yet been released by police at this time. Nor has the subject’s blood alcohol level been revealed at the time of the incident. The firm’s condolences are with the family of deputy Chavis and her department in this horrible time.

Our Prayer

Lord, we pray to you asking to grant the souls of the fallen rest for they have earned the peace and comfort of thy kingdom lord. We ask that you grant their families the knowledge that they are in paradise with you forever Lord. We ask this in your name with all the glory and honor given to you. Amen.

As many officers have said as they expressed their love and support for deputy Chavis and her family DWI is not a victimless crime. It has a wide range of effects from crashing vehicles to causing the fatalities of innocent bystanders or officers just trying to do their jobs. As such it is important to make sure that the perpetrator of this crime is punished to the fullest extent of the law. Both in the criminal and civil courts where the maximum consequences of their actions can be felt. To achieve that goal in this case and others like it an attorney will be needed to navigate the dense legal waters.
