Two people were killed in Fort Worth, Texas, in a tragic accident involving an illegal street takeover.

Background

The incident occurred on Sunday night around 11 p.m. near the intersection of University Drive, West 7th Street, and White Settlement Road. According to witnesses, several cars were performing dangerous stunts and preventing traffic from passing through the intersection. The police were called to the scene to break up the event and as they arrived, the driver of a red Camaro, which was said to be the leader of the group, fled the scene. Moments later, the Camaro crashed and hit a curb, went down an embankment and flipped over on White Settlement Road and Henderson Street. Two survivors were pulled from the wreckage and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver and a passenger, both of whom have not been identified, were killed. The crash happened in front of Crash Brothers Paint & Body and the owner, Chris Garcia, said he is thinking of the families of those killed. He also mentioned that street racing is a common problem in the area and that this roundabout is a recipe for disaster. According to the president of the Linwood Neighborhood Association, street racing is an ongoing issue every Sunday night. The police did not chase the Camaro and did not release the approximate speed at which it was traveling when it crashed. The accident is still under investigation.
